Hello readers! Tom here, Swipe’s editor since 2017 – and as of this update, its owner too! Swipe is now fully independent, so here’s what that means for you.
What’s changing?
Thankfully, not much. There’ll still be a new issue every month, covering most of the same ground. But Swipe will lean harder into what it does best: helping you discover great apps and get the most from your iPhone.
To make room, I’m cutting back on covering Apple news. As a small publication we can’t compete with the million other newsfeeds out there, but we can do better at all the other stuff. In place of news, each issue will have even more reviews, roundups, features, and in-depth guides. Those will now appear in the app as soon as they’re written, so there’s no waiting for the next issue.
A new look
The Swipe app has a fresh coat of paint: a new icon, a cleaner UI, and a customizable color scheme. That builds on our last update, which added dynamic text sizes, dark mode, and a gorgeous reader view. The widgets have been polished too, so you can keep up with new content from your Home Screen.

The old News tab is now Latest, which shows the last six months of articles with category filters for easy browsing. The Issues tab is still there if you prefer to read the old-fashioned way.
If you don’t see the Latest tab, check you’re on v27 in settings or update from the App Store. It needs iOS 26 or later, but older devices will still get every issue – just without the new design.
New prices
I’ve also decided to lower prices for new and existing subscribers:
- Monthly: down from $5 to $3
- Yearly: down from $30 to $25
If you’re paying one of the higher prices, your subscription will drop to the new rate when it renews.
If you’re on our original $2/month tier, nothing changes for now – but in the new year, legacy plans will move to $3/month. Switch to annual before then and you’ll lock in the equivalent of $2.08/month.
Independence means less funding behind Swipe, and I don’t run ads or take shady sponsorship deals. So subscriptions matter more than ever. If you enjoy the magazine, staying subscribed is the best way to support it – and sharing the app with a friend is the next best thing.
Talk to me
As owner and editor, I’m personally accountable for making sure you enjoy Swipe. So instead of a generic support address, you can get in touch with me directly at tom@swipemag.app.
I can’t help with general tech support, but I’m all ears for feedback on Swipe – let me know your thoughts on the update and what you’d like to see more (or less) of in future issues.
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading, and here’s to the next decade of Swipe!
Tom Rolfe
