Welcome to #358: A note from the editor

Hey there readers! As promised last month, this is a big one. This October issue lands alongside a major overhaul of the app – and a change of ownership. Swipe is now independently owned and run by me, your humble editor! For more on both, read our news story “Welcome to a new era of Swipe.”

As for this issue? Business as usual, more or less. Our cover story looks at how to get more from your iPhone camera – not just app recommendations, mind you, but general photography tips for the camera that’s always in your pocket. And with spooky season upon us, we’re revisiting our yearly Halloween roundups.

Elsewhere, the Indie Apps Showcase has become something of a monthly fixture. Since launching it earlier this year, I’ve received hundreds of app pitches, and it’s been a pleasure to sift out the duds and bring you some genuinely great apps each month. No spoilers on who “won” this month, but they’ve earned a full write-up in the newly renamed Apps section.

Beyond that, there’s the usual blend of reviews, guides and long-read features. Breaking news is no longer my priority (we’ll still cover the really big stuff in Features), which leaves more room for the good stuff – this feels like the most packed issue in a long time.

Today more than ever, thank you so much for reading, and see you in November!

Swipe Editor

P.S. I have one ask for all you loyal readers. If you’ve enjoyed Swipe over the months and years, please consider leaving us a review on the App Store. We’re still haunted by a couple of negative reviews from a bug we fixed six years ago, and a few fresh positive ones would help consign those to history. It also really helps new people discover the app. Thank you!
